Purdue for Life Foundation

2024 IMPACT REPORT

The next giant leap starts here.

I’m Matt Folk, president and CEO of the Purdue for Life Foundation and a 1991 Electrical Engineering graduate. I’m pleased to welcome you to our 2024 impact report. I’m a lifelong fan of our university, a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association, and a longtime member of both President’s Council and the John Purdue Club.

Thank you to everyone—alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, students, parents and families, friends, fans, and our corporate and foundation partners—for helping Purdue set a new record with philanthropic support this year.

In fact, in the four years since the formation of Purdue for Life, total dollars raised have grown by 51%, philanthropic cash has grown by 71%, and total donors have grown by 9%.

The Purdue for Life Foundation is the cornerstone for engagement, development, and stewardship at Purdue. We offer a variety of ways to get involved—including through region-based clubs, affinity networks, volunteering and mentoring opportunities, alumni living, travel, lifelong learning, and more.

We recently unveiled our three-year strategic plan, which will guide our work as we advance Indiana’s flagship, land-grant university. This report gives you an inside look at how we have worked to grow engagement, increase financial support, cultivate our stories, achieve organizational excellence, and support university priorities.

It’s a great day to be a Boilermaker, and for that, we have you to thank. When you participate on Purdue Day of Giving, encourage your neighbor’s kid to consider Purdue, and share the news about the world-changing discoveries and innovations being made by Boilermakers on campus and around the world, you are advancing our university. Thank you.

YOU’RE ALWAYS WELCOME

Located in Room 102 of Stewart Center—right in the heart of campus—the Boilermaker Station Welcome Center is the main hub for alumni and fans as well as prospective students, serving as the launching point for all admissions tours.

We welcomed more than 42,000 visitors last year!

GET INVOLVED

No matter where you live, what your interests are, or what stage of life you’re in, we’re here to help you grow. Refine your skills by learning something new, build your network by joining a club, and expand your friend group by exploring the world with fellow Boilermakers.

Alumni Clubs // Our regional clubs connect alumni, friends, and fans throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. These clubs create programming and experiences that enhance engagement in a variety of ways.

  • Social
  • Professional
  • Intellectual
  • Service
  • Scholarships and Student Recruitment

Through 70+ clubs, we reached 5,000+ alumni.

In the last year, our clubs hosted more than 1,000 events and welcomed new groups in Colorado Springs, Arkansas, Fresno, and Hunstville. Through the support of our alumni club members, we were able to award 102 scholarships totaling $151,500.

Affinity Networks // Our 12 affinity networks—some with multiple chapters—connect like-minded Boilermakers around a central purpose, mission, background, or activity beyond class affiliation, school, or regional proximity. Shared interests within the Purdue family are at the heart of these networks.

We added two new affinity networks in 2023–24, including the Purdue Alumni Medical Network, an initiative from the First Lady of the university. Together with our 136 volunteer leaders, affinity networks organized more than 113 events that reached thousands of Purdue alumni.

International Engagement and Alumni Travel // Purdue graduates make their mark—and show their Purdue pride—all over the world. At the Purdue for Life Foundation, we are dedicated to helping alumni explore, discover, and get involved no matter where they want to go or where they choose to live.

Our global alumni enjoy making connections with other Boilermakers, and they are given opportunities to share their stories with students through networking events and mentorship opportunities. Our program has raised nearly $150,000 that directly supports other areas in Purdue for Life.

Lifelong Learning // We believe that learning doesn’t come to an end once you have your diploma in hand. It’s a lifelong process, and the Purdue for Life Foundation is the home for personal and professional learning delivered beyond Purdue’s campus. Our lifelong learning programs allow alumni, friends, and fans the opportunity to grow, achieve, and engage with the larger Purdue family in person or online.

We have partnered with Purdue Global, Purdue University Online, and campus-wide partners to provide a diverse portfolio of convenient and affordable lifelong learning offerings, and we increased our number of online courses to more than 450 this past year.

Volunteerism // Volunteerism is an essential component of our mission, and we encourage all alumni, friends, and fans of Purdue to volunteer in ways that are meaningful to them.

Volunteer opportunities give our alumni even more ways to stay connected with Purdue, other Boilermakers, and their own communities. In the past year, we held Purdue Day of Service twice on the West Lafayette campus in support of the 1869 Tree Planting Master Plan. The events reinforced Purdue’s standing as an Arbor Day Foundation Tree Campus Higher Education institution, an honor the university has held since 2009.

Combined, nearly 260 volunteers planted 474 trees.

More than 15,000 Boilermakers have joined Purdue Ties—the university’s premier networking and mentoring platform—to post updates, share resources, request professional development help, and browse job postings. Within the platform, users can connect via mentorship, and over 5,600 of our members have expressed a willingness to mentor students and other alumni.

Student and Recent Graduate Programs // We prepare students for life after college by connecting them to alumni for mentoring and professional development and by organizing events that mirror the alumni engagement experience. Our largest student program is PASE, the Purdue Alumni Student Experience, which offers exclusive discounts, gear, and programming for a one-time fee.

Over 2,100 new members joined PASE in 2023–24.

With over 8,000 members, it continues to be the largest student organization at Purdue University.

  • A group of students, alumni, and parents participated in an exclusive panel discussion, demonstration, and networking field trip to Motorola Headquarters in Chicago.

Industry Partnerships // The Office of Industry Partnerships (OIP) is dedicated to fostering robust collaborations between academia and industry. OIP actively engages with Purdue’s faculty and staff to align resources with industry demands—facilitating everything from securing funding to fostering partnerships that span joint research initiatives, mentorship programs for student projects, and equipment donations.

This year, the OIP team was instrumental in supporting the SK hynix Inc. semiconductor advanced packaging investment in the Purdue Research Park. This historic partnership is another step in Purdue’s persistent pursuit of semiconductor excellence as a part of the Purdue Computes initiative.

The educational partnerships arm of OIP helped the university take a significant step in supporting military-affiliated students by unveiling its Military Advisory Board, a highly decorated panel of experts and veterans who are committed to enhancing the educational experience of military-connected learners.

Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, and You // Since April 2022, the Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DIB) Division at Purdue for Life, along with Purdue’s Equity Task Force, has been hard at work developing a broad range of alumni engagement and fundraising strategies to create and strengthen connections with potential volunteers, mentors, industry partners, and donors.
